History of AmeriCorps
Created with bipartisan support from Congress, the President, and community groups nationwide in 1993, the Corporation for National and Community Service engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service that strengthens communities.

AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps engages more than 50,000 Americans in intensive, results-driven service each year. We're teaching children to read, making neighborhoods safer, building affordable homes, and responding to natural disasters through more than 1000 projects. Most AmeriCorps members are selected by and serve with projects like Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, and Boys and Girls Clubs, and many more local and national organizations.

The History of Coaches for Success
The AmeriCorps Coaches for Success program has been in operation under the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center since 1995. Coaches for Success began as a small partnership with Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. In 1996, the program split to create two individually ran programs. At that time the program consisted of 20 members providing service to after-school and summer programs within Community Centers of Indianapolis. The program quickly grew; by 2000, the program had grown to 101 members with added partnerships with the Indianapolis Public School system and Indy Parks and Recreation. In 2001, the YMCA Urban Mission was added to continue to increase the impact of our program.

Currently...
